Composer and conductor, son of Joan Lamote de Grignon. Musically trained with his father, from childhood he continued his training at the Conservatori del Liceu, where he studied cello with J. Raventós and Bernardino Gálvez, and piano with Joan Baptista Pellicer and Frank Marshall. From a very young age he worked as a cellist in the Orquestra Simfònica del Gran Teatre del Liceu and the Orquestra Simfònica de Barcelona. In 1925 he began to work in a German pianola roll factory. In 1926 he worked as a percussionist in the Banda Municipal of Barcelona and in 1930 he was appointed conductor of the Orquestra Simfònica de Girona with which he carried out an important cultural work. In 1932 he won the position of deputy conductor of the Banda Municipal de Barcelona.
In April 1936 one of his works, "Joan de l’ós" for band, soloists and choir, inaugurated the XIV Festival of the International Society for Contemporary Music in Barcelona. In 1936 Ricard Lamote joined the protest against the Gernika bombing carried out by the Condor Legion and composed a work titled "Cartell simfònic" for a political festival. Once the Civil War ended, his participation in this act and the multiple complaints made him imprisoned and later retaliated. In 1942 he went to Valencia together with his father; There he held the position of deputy conductor of the newly created Municipal Orchestra, next to his father, who was a conductor. In 1948 he returned to Barcelona and devoted himself especially to composition and musical pedagogy. During those years, with many difficulties in resuming his public musical activity to the level he deserved, he composed film music. In 1955 he was reinstated as conductor of the Banda Municipal, a position he held until 1957, the year in which he became deputy conductor of the Orquestra Municipal de Barcelona, collaborating closely until his death with Eduard Toldrà, who was the conductor.
Ricard Lamote de Grignon was an excellent composer who cultivated all genres. He composed pieces for piano, symphonic music, chamber music, works for band, choral work, songs and sardanas. In 1961, a year before his death, his opera "La cabeza del dragón" was premiered by the composer himself. His music, of great eclecticism, denotes orchestral wisdom and an important inventive capacity, and supposes a transcendent contribution to the musical culture of Spain.
